Wander Out Yonder : A Illustrated journey thru WA.

In 2025, Fi continues her wandering from home and takes her Wander Out Yonder Exhibition to other parts of WA, she is following in the traditions of painted paper Illustrator and story teller Eric Carle and his Hungry Caterpillar - playing with colour and shape and design layout.

As part of this project children's and adults workshops will be offered to add to the story line she is creating.

IN THIS WORKSHOP WHAT WE DO:

We will create a  framed and ready to hang image, to gift or keep.

We will be using pre prepared hand printed papers and learning different ways to use them and then creating new painted papers if time permits.

We will be discussing different species of local plants and animals as they relate to the selection of images the children choose to use.

Collage is a great medium to develop our art skills.
Fully accessible for all levels, our workshops prime objective is to build creative confidence and learn some new useful skills for self expression. We will be painting, printing, cutting, and sticking.

WHO:

Children aged between 8-12 years.

All designed for enthusiastic young artists giving lots of opportunity to those with existing skills and a desire to develop their skills of observation, making and expressing their own stories thru visual language.

This project focuses on local species of plants and animals. Developing their naturalist minds and sensitivities. As part of the session we will discuss the species that are under threat or are misunderstood - those we live near and those we have seen on our travels.

We encourage all children to attend no need for special skills - we just want them to be interested  - so that everyone in the session is on the same page and has the same focus and we can minimise distractions for those who will value this chance to work along side an enthusiastic and dynamic teacher.

ABOUT:

2 Hours duration spent with other like minded kids, a relaxed yet creatively stimulating environment. Fi will adjust her presentation to the group - working with various interest levels.

We will be looking at a range of birds, creatures and fauna from the local environment for our inspiration.

We will also spend some time learning about design and illustration. Where Ideas come from and how to turn complex things we see -  into simple dynamic and unique images.

ABOUT FI AND HER EXPERIENCE:

Fi is a Margaret River based artist who loves sharing, and developing creative thinking across communities both urban and rural . She has been teaching workshops in painting and collage for over 10 years. Her work is often used by primary school teachers as inspiration in art class.

This exhibition is all about looking at Western Australia’s unique environments and its animal inhabitants and illustrating the stories we find there. These children's workshop sessions are a unique opportunity to bring kids in contact with a professional artist and illustrator, to learn about character creation and turning our ideas into visual realities.  Great for those interested in developing their skills, or those who just love to figure our puzzles.

Fi is currently working on a children's picture book and she is looking for ideas from kids in the places she visits.

This is a travelling exhibition and we hope to take it on the road and go further around the regions. Learning about endemic species and communities as we go.

Her work has recently be acquired by the Hilton Hotel chain for exhibition in their new hotel in Busselton and John Sands Cards for use with the Variety Club. She is represented by Linton and Kay Galleries in Perth and has been a regular participant and past committee member of Margaret River Open Studios over the past 13 years.

Fi has also been proud to work with the the Art Gallery of Western Australia holiday education program.
