Esperance Workshop - Wander Out Yonder Children's Workshop.
Wander Out Yonder : A Illustrated journey thru WA.
Following in the traditions of Painted Paper Illustrator and story teller Eric Carle and his Hungry Caterpillar -
In 2025, Feb 13th till the March 30, Fi will be holding an exhibition for her Wander Out Yonder Collection at The Cannery Arts Center in Esperance.
We would love you to come visit!
As part of this event children's and adults workshops will be offered
Children ages 6-12 and 12-15.
All designed for Beginners - but lots of opportunity for those with existing skills.
*Is this suitable for your child or young person?
We encourage all children to attend no matter what their skill level - we just want them to be interested - so that everyone in the session is on the same page and has the same focus and we can minimise distractions for those who will value this chance to work with Fi.
We look at different local species and learn a little about them - Children are required to focus for short periods. There is also the option to choose to complete parts of the project how ever they choose - creating the background and story for their subject. They are usually very busy and engaged.
WHAT:
2 Hours duration.
Depending on bookings it is possible that a combined children's/teens workshop will be scheduled -- However our project focus will be slightly different for the different age groups:
For older children (12-15) we will work on creating our own designs, characters and discuss how we can tell our own stories about where we live in WA.
For younger children (6-12) we will follow a template to help us create our art work.
Both age groups will be creating a ready to frame image which will be mounted and presented, ready to fit easily into an off the shelf frame* However - For older participants they might prefer to work into a visual diary of A4( or larger) or have the option of working on a larger substrate.
We will be looking at a range of birds, creatures and fauna from the local environment for our inspiration.
We will also spend some time learning about design and illustration. Where Ideas come from and how to turn complex things we see - into simple dynamic and unique images.

ABOUT FI AND HER EXPERIENCE:
Fi is a Margaret River Artist who loves sharing, and developing creative thinking across communities both urban and rural . She has been teaching workshops in painting and collage for over 10 years. Her work is often used by primary school teachers as inspiration in art class.
This exhibition is all about looking at Western Australia’s unique environments and its animal inhabitants and illustrating the stories we find there. These children's workshop sessions are a unique opportunity to bring kids in contact with a professional artist and illustrator, to learn about character creation and turning our ideas into visual realities. Great for those interested in developing their skills, or those who just love to figure our puzzles.
Fi is currently working on a children's picture book and she is looking for ideas from kids in the places she visits.
This is a travelling exhibition and we hope to take it on the road and go further around the regions. Learning about endemic species and communities as we go.
Her work has recently be acquired by the Hilton Hotel chain for exhibition in their new hotel in Busselton and John Sands Cards for use with the Variety Club. She is represented by Linton and Kay Galleries in Perth and has been a regular participant and past committee member of Margaret River Open Studios over the past 10 years.
Fi has also been proud to work with the the Art Gallery of Western Australia holiday education program.
"thankyou so much for fitting us in at the last minute - the kids were buzzing when they got home - simply loved it and have been cutting and sticking ever since"
